Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Terion Thomas explores early and contemporary techniques of alternative processes in photography. In 2020 she graduated from University of Louisville’s Hite Art Institute with a BFA in 2D studio arts with a concentration in printmaking. At her core Thomas is a traditional printmaker, excelling in intaglio printing, but she has been honing her skills in lumen printing after discovering the practice in 2019. Thomas predominantly works with botanicals, engaging with the irony of working with something so ephemeral but ultimately making it immortal through her work.
* TerionPrints is an environmentally mindful brand that utilizes recycled fixer and unwanted paper for all lumen prints.
About the Artist
A Lumen print is a solar photogram. A photogram is a camera-less photographic image that’s made by placing an object on top of light sensitive photographic paper and exposing the paper to light. After exposure, the object leaves a permanent image on the paper. This is traditionally done in a darkroom using artificial light and it usually results in a black and white image. When this same process is done in direct sunlight, a chemical reaction happens to the paper resulting in an image abundant in gorgeous pastel colors along with a unique, ethereal image.
